Dental emergencies are scary and inconvenient! It can be overwhelming if there's blood or pain and you're not sure what to do. The good news is that when you have the right dental team on your side, you can rest assured that things will turn out all right. Here are three common dental emergencies and tips on how you can handle them.
A Broken Tooth
If your tooth breaks, it will require treatment in order to prevent further damage. Try to gather as many pieces of your tooth as you can and contact your team at East Cooper Smiles right away. Dr. Annan will determine the best repair option for your tooth.
If your tooth is chipped, we still encourage patients to call us. Even if your chip is small, it should be smoothed so it doesn't irritate your tongue or soft tissues.
A Knocked Out Tooth
In this situation, it's important to act fast. Dr. Annan has a better chance of saving your tooth the quicker he can see you after your accident or injury. Be sure to transport it carefully, and handle it as little as possible. Replacing it back into its socket is the best option if possible. If not, use a cup or baggie filled with milk to help keep your cells alive and moist.
If you're experiencing tooth pain or a constant ache, this may indicate a dental infection. This situation also requires immediate attention, as a dental infection will not go away without treatment. Root canal therapy may be able to remove the infected tissue from your tooth and help preserve it if you act quickly. An infection left untreated could spread to other critical areas of the body, and eventually result in tooth loss.
