Some people are not new to orthodontics. Maybe they had treatment as a teenager but didn’t wear the retainers and relapsed. For patients undergoing therapy for the second time, you know what to expect.
But for those new to Invisalign in Mount Pleasant, SC, we’ve put together some tips, including what to expect during and after treatment.
New to Invisalign, here are some tips to optimize your treatment and get the most out of therapy.
Tip #1 Wear Your Invisalign Aligners
Ideally, you should wear your aligners for 22 hours each day, taking them out only to brush, floss, and eat, which brings us to the next tip.
Tip #2 Remove Your Aligners When Applicable
Never attempt to wear your aligners when eating, as this can damage the product.
Tip #3 Keep Your Aligners Safe
If you do remove your aligner to eat or clean your teeth, be sure to keep it in a safe place. We recommend a plastic dish with a lid. Wrapping it in paper can find it accidentally being thrown away.
Tip #4 Do Not Use Toothpaste and Mouth Rinses on Your Aligners
It’s essential to keep your aligner clean, but we recommend rinsing in room temperature water or using a product approved for Invisalign like AlignerFresh.
Tip #5 Follow Your Dentist’s Instructions
Your dentist will provide a precise guideline for changing your aligner or visiting our dental office for an orthodontic check. Be sure to follow these instructions.
Tip #6 Wear Your Retainer
After treatment, your dentist provides a custom retainer to prevent orthodontic relapse. Typically, you wear it at night. It’s essential to do this because it protects your investment and keeps your smile aligned.
