Does swishing with baking soda whiten teeth?

The quick answer to this question is - not really. In the past, baking soda was used as toothpaste because it can neutralize acids in the mouth that cause cavities. It's also mildly abrasive with a small amount of bleach, which makes it a good option if you need toothpaste in a pinch. However, prolonged exposure to an abrasive substance on your teeth could cause enamel to erode.

These days, we have plenty of more effective options for brushing and whitening teeth, so there's really no reason to use baking soda.

At East Cooper Smiles, Dr. Jason Annan offers professional teeth whitening in Mount Pleasant with KöR Whitening. KöR deep bleaching has proven effective in eliminating even the toughest stubborn tooth stains, such as tetracycline staining.

KöR treatments are customized to the patient's unique needs based on the level of staining they're trying to eliminate. Combining both at-home and in-office treatments, KöR delivers the best results on the market. Our patients love the brighter smiles they achieve with KöR Whitening!
